So-What voicings is a concept which was formed by Miles Davis, from his song 'So What' . The concept was named after the song. The chord is built by counting 'Three 4ths and a 3rd' , holding it together with your left and right hand. For example, E & A on the left, while right hand plays G, D & B. Watch this video and see how I determined the two kinds of roots So-What has. Practice So-What voicings especially as a jazz composer and player. It's a sweet adventure.

Concern about the 3rd and 7th notes
Sir, should we only use the 3rd and the 7th notes only in its major form, how about the minor form? That is, 1. Can I make my maj.3rd above the qaurtal voicing a minor 3rd? 2. In determining the root, can I make my first note a minor 3rd, and minor 7th?
